Effective hero journeys that don’t kill the villain?



Can a villain go through the hero’s journey?

Villains are critical to any hero’s journey. There wouldn’t be a Luke Skywalker without a Darth Vader. Whether the villain is a person, monster, natural disaster, or the hero’s own internal conflict, the hero must overcome the villain. I theorize that the hero’s cycle is reflected by a similar cycle, a villain’s cycle.
