Can you put two footnote numbers together?



Do not place multiple footnotes at the same point in your text (e.g. 1, 2, 3). If you need to cite multiple sources in one sentence, you can combine the citations into one footnote, separated by semicolons: 1. Hulme, “Romanticism and Classicism”; Eliot, The Waste Land; Woolf, “Modern Fiction,” 11.

How do you have two footnotes with the same number?

For Reference type select ‘Footnote’ and for Insert reference to select ‘Footnote number’.



Inserting Duplicate Footnote using Symbols.

  1. On the Reference tab, in the Footnotes group, click the Dialog Launcher.
  2. In the Custom Mark field type the preferred number or symbol.
  3. Click the Insert button.
  4. Enter the footnote text.

How do you continue numbering in footnotes?

You have the option to restart footnote or endnote numbers so that numbering begins with 1 on each page or in each section.

  1. On the Insert menu, click Footnote.
  2. Under Format, in the Start at box, enter 1.
  3. On the Numbering pop-up menu, click the option that you want, and then click Apply.





Do footnotes have to be sequential?

In most cases, word limits for essays include footnotes and bibliographies. Notes should be numbered sequentially (1,2,3 etc).

Can footnote numbers be repeated?

Repeated footnote references. In a change from past practice, numbered footnote indicators are no longer repeated in resolutions. When a reference must be repeated, a new footnote with the identical text should be inserted.



How do you add multiple footnotes?

Select the ‘Insert Footnote’ button and enter the footnote information. Place the cursor where the second footnote needs to be placed. Select the ‘References’ ribbon. Select ‘Cross-reference’

What if two footnotes have the same source?



If the subsequent citation is in the footnote immediately following the full citation, you can use ‘ibid’. Used alone, ‘ibid’ means ‘in the very same place’ – in other words, the same source and the same page or paragraph as the preceding full citation.
