How can I make an in-universe random event feel like it was really random instead of just RNJesus’ will?

Asked by: Brian Perea

Are there random events in the universe?

But nothing in the natural universe is truly random, because everything is predetermined by some other thing. This concept of randomness has made its way into science and politics, and it misleads people to make false assumptions about the world.

Is life just a series of random events?

Yes, you read that right, folks. Here’s what I learned: Life is a random process, just like a statistical time series. There are areas of life within our control, and there is randomness out of our control. Life goes up, life goes down, much of it due to random chance in the world.

Can anything truly be random?

Researchers typically use random numbers supplied by a computer, but these are generated by mathematical formulas – and so by definition cannot be truly random. In the 1970s, scientists discovered that a widely-used formula produced regularities in its ‘random’ numbers that undermined countless research studies.

Is there such thing as randomness?

Theorized in statistical mathematics, the notion of randomness exists as a concept. But the definition of random models assumes that different events can be observed following identical initial circumstances. Such a form of randomness cannot exist in a world governed by determinism under the laws of physics.

Can you control the progression of events in your life?

You can’t change, prevent, or delete many of the “Events” that happen in life, but you do have control over your “Reaction.” And that’s critical. Your reaction will give you the “Outcome” of celebration or desperation.

Why or why is not randomness essential to our life?

Randomness is essential; actually, we cannot lead our lives without applying randomness from time to time. Throughout humanity of yesteryear to the contemporary one, uncertainty has been the rule of the day with individuals resorting to different sorts of prediction.

Do physicists believe in true randomness?

Physicist: With very few exceptions, yes. What we normally call “random” is not truly random, but only appears so. The randomness is a reflection of our ignorance about the thing being observed, rather than something inherent to it.

Is quantum mechanics truly random?

Quantum measurements and observations are fundamentally random. However, randomness is in deep conflict with the deterministic laws of physics.

Does a true random number generator exist?

There are devices that generate numbers that claim to be truly random. They rely on unpredictable processes like thermal or atmospheric noise rather than human-defined patterns. The results might still be slightly biased towards higher numbers or even numbers, but they’re not generated by a deterministic algorithm.

Why is true randomness impossible?

The Problem. Just by using software, you can’t generate truly random numbers because all current software is deterministic, which means that every output in a calculation will be the exact same given the same input (and providing zero input is still considered an input).

Do random number generators have a pattern?

But good random number generators don’t have any clear pattern to their output, making finding which page of their codebook they correspond to very difficult.) There is no limit to the size of the codebook that algorithmic random number generation can support.
