How can breaking the rules be a good thing?

There’s an emotional upside too — people who break the rules feel smarter than the rest. Maybe it’s because they aren’t conforming. They are liberated — getting rid of rules allows their brains to think freely and let their creative juices flow without limitations.

How do you handle breaking a rule?

Try for understanding first. If that doesn’t work, three choices: Either stay with the group and follow the rules, leave the group, or work to change the rules. It’s okay to be firm about offering those three choices. And it works well to work with that rule breaker one-on-one outside of the public view.
