Sequels and avoiding sequelitis?

Asked by: Matthew Barr

Why do sequels get worse?

The third reason why sequels are almost always worse than the original is simply not having enough time. When a sequel, or any movie for that matter, is rushed, the story, characters, dialogue, and action don’t get enough thought put into them, and the film ends up feeling incomplete.

What makes a sequel better than the original?

Well, the answer is obvious. It’s got to expand on its predecessor, taking what was originally done. In most cases, the movie sequel is better than the original in almost every way. Now, granted, if ‘the original’ in question is already a killer film (which it often is), improving upon it is no easy task.

Why is the second movie in a trilogy always the best?

The first movie is meant to establish the world, characters, overarching story, and more. The third film is there to wrap up the saga, in a hopefully satisfying way, that brings it all together masterfully. That leaves the second part to sometimes just exist to further the plot.

Why are originals always better?

Remakes twist the plot Most people prefer originals over remakes because the original plot is usually the favorite. When you like the way a movie is, there is no point in watching a remake of the movie that is similar but also totally different.
