An author can choose to submit a book to multiple publishers. Depending on the agreed-upon contract between the author and publishing house, one publishing house may have exclusive rights to a published work for a specified time frame.

Can I reprint my book?

The author of a copyrighted work can prevent others from copying, performing, or using the work without his or her consent. A third party wishing to reprint all or any part of a copyrighted work must first obtain the permission of the copyright holder. Failure to do so could result in a lawsuit and substantial fines.

Can I republish a book with a new ISBN?

No, once a title is published with an ISBN on it, the ISBN can never be used again. Even if a title goes out of print, the ISBN cannot be reused since the title continues to be catalogued by libraries and traded by used booksellers.

Can you publish a sequel with a different publisher?

For any books that fall under copyright protection you need permission from the copyright holder. The holder is typically the author, the author’s family, or the book publisher. Without obtaining the rights, you cannot sell/publish a sequel.
